Feathers & Sequins

A little feathers & sequins for you this weekend. I must admit to feeling rather "ruffled" this weekend. Not in a bad way, just nerves. My latest show opened on Friday night and I always get the opening night jitters. Can't help it. Anyway, I'm 2 shows down with another one tomorrow and am already exhausted. Ready to hit the hay. Thankfully opening night was a hit!!

Back soon with some lovely links for the weekend.

Behind the Scenes: Thread People Vintage Dressing

Back in August I did a fun shoot wearing this gorgeous vintage dress sent to me by Thread People. If you missed it you can see it here. Last night I came across the above pics that my hubby had taken. A few behind the scenes shots on his iPhone and also a couple of test shots taken by the photographer, Edward Chiofalo. The last shot was taken by Edward but my hubby decided to have fun with it & make it look as vintage as possible. I love the way it turned out!

Paris Tango ~ Carla Coulson

"On moving to Paris, I met many Parisians who welcomed me into their world for a morning, an afternoon, a night - I felt like Alice in Wonderland. I found a visual feast in a land devoted to beauty, where people worship the finer things in life." ~ Carla Coulson

From Sydney to Florence and now Paris, Photographer, Carla Coulson, has captured her life's journey and met some truly amazing people along the way. Carla's photographs always tell a story that tend to make me want to jump right into that moment she has captured.

I have followed Carla's blog for some time and have fallen in love with her photographic style. Recently a friend of mine, Katie, came across Carla's book, Paris Tango, and bought it for me not knowing how much I love Carla's photography and that I follow her blog. She simply bought it because she knows how much I love Paris and thought the photographs within the book were amazing. You can only imagine how excited I was to receive this gift as I had been wanting to buy Paris Tango for some time.

Well, the book is truly wonderful. Carla takes us on a Parisian journey with her photos from the story of how she came to Paris, living in The Marais, the Parisians and their dogs, to the artists of Paris such as Moulin Rouge dancers, Haute Couture designers, gardeners, florists, perfumers, and lovers of the Tango. A particular story that resonated with me was of Argentinean-born artist, Carlos Regazzoni, who creates larger than life sculptures from old metal scraps and all sorts of abandoned metal pieces he finds. I won't retell the story here, only to say that it saddened me. All around the world artists have to struggle to be able to create and make a living, to have a place to create and display their art so as to inspire people....

If you haven't seen Carla's work, pay a visit to her website or stop by her blog. You can purchase her book, Paris Tango here.

Dazzling Dita

Credits

Ever glamorous, sophisticated & with an air of old world charm. Never a hair out of place, skin like porcelain & groomed to perfection. Dita Von Teese is my current inspiration favourite. Loving these images of her shot for the exclusive cocktail bar in Paris Le Cointreau PrivĂ©, as well as My Cointreau Travel Essentials and her new signature cocktail the MargaDita.

Did you know, she doesn't have a stylist? No, this perpetual image of perfection she "teeses" us with is all her own, and how utterly fabulous she most definitely is.

So, who else will be sneaking a few glamorous cocktails this weekend?

50s Pin-Up Party

My most popular post by far and also the one I get a lot of emails & questions about is the 50s Pin-Up theme birthday party I threw for my hubby last year. It was the best night ever, we all had such a rockin' time! Back then I was new to blogging & a little apprehensive about sharing "people photos" on the blog so I really didn't pop enough pics up. Sooo... since it's such a popular post, I thought my lovely readers deserved to see a few more photos of the night we rocked around the clock...

With my hubby
Channeling Buddy Holly...
My pin-up gal outfit
Just so you know, these lovely munchkins were NOT smoking, they just snuck my prop when I wasn't looking! It's not real!!
The guitar shaped cake covered in edible pin-up gals
The birthday boy gets a kiss from the pin-up gal
With my gorgeous sister
Katie on the left & Nic on the right.

It was a disgustingly hot night, so humid & raining, so you'll have to excuse if we're looking a little sweaty & also any frizzy hair haha!

I shall leave you with a little favourite 50's number of mine from Buddy Holly...
